Holding Space

This photographic series explores belonging, displacement, and the ephemeral connections we form with unfamiliar landscapes.

Wandering through the forests of Victoria, Australia, I create temporary interventions by tying red ropes around trees. These gestures become a way of engaging with the land, transforming the act of wandering into a meditative process of connection and presence.

The red ropes materialise the invisible bonds we form with places, while questioning the boundaries between human intervention and the natural environment. Each installation exists only briefly. Once photographed, the ropes are untied, leaving the landscape as it was found.

This process of tying and untying becomes a metaphor for arrival and departure, attachment and release. It reflects my own experience of moving between places, searching for a sense of belonging without claiming ownership.

Through these temporary gestures, the project invites reflection on what it means to inhabit a place, to connect with it, and ultimately, to let it go.
